I believe NYC area is one of the only areas with a local level like that. Most local governments are typically funded just through sales, property taxes, permits and licensures, as well as redistribution of various taxes collected at the state level (usually income and gas taxes)
Does anyone use a steam mop, and have a particular one they really like? I have the color of tile floors that gets dirty if you even look at them much less actually live on them. I am tired of them being dirty all the time, and I also really hate regular mops. I’m reading about these steam mops and they seem like a good choice but lots look like they are cheap and break easily.
I’ve had two and both died within a few months. Until they broke they were fantastic. I’m not buying any more.
I’ve always found it fairly simple to prepare federal taxes for myself/my family. I think the big tax preparers want taxes to seem incredibly complicated so that people are afraid of messing them up and getting into trouble. They’ve negotiated things like free tax prep for people earning less that $65k, but they also don’t advertise that and try to push you to upgrade from the free version (especially TurboTax) so much that it seems like a scam. So they benefit from the fact that taxes are complicated for some people by scaring many people into paying for tax prep.
I have a cheap one (about $35), Shark brand. I’ve had it much longer than Smacky, but I have probably not used it nearly as much. I mostly use it for cat pee when the diabetic has an accident.
I also use distilled water, which keeps it from stopping up (from the dehumidifier resevoir; I don’t buy it). My mom has one that gets a lot of use and does the same because she also has hard water, and it seems to last. She’s replaced one, but it was after years of use.
I have a Shark also but the lift away pro that was on deep sale about five years ago. I love it. I have old linoleum in the kitchen that is ok to be cleaned w steam and it’s soooooo much nicer than scrub brush on my hands and knees that is the only other method that’s worked.
I bought this version because of the price but I don’t use the handheld features much.
Yes I have been scrub brushing on my hands and knees and my back says “Please stop” to that now…so a steam mop is seeming like a good option. I will look at the Shark Lift away pro, I think that’s one of the ones I was reading up on yesterday
I have super hard water…so I’m reading I should only used distilled water if I want it to last?
Apparently the deposits stop up the little holes, which makes sense. Dehumidifier water seems to work if you use one (you’re stopping up your dehumidifier instead!) I’ve not tried it but I’d bet water run through a drip coffeemaker would work, at least much better than straight from the tap, and drip coffee machines are both cheaper and easier to descale than a steam mop.
Dehumidifier water = free distilled water
Mind blown. Calcium deposits removed
But also I have an H2O mop and I love it, but I’ve only used it 5 times. It’s magic magic magic
Kiddo just flushed a cardboard toilet tube do I need to call a plumber, or should we wait and see if it works its own way through the system?
If it made it past the toilet proper I wouldn’t worry too much about it. It might still cause a problem but I wouldn’t pre-emptively call a plumber over it.
I have had a Haan steam mop for about 10 years and love it. I did have to buy more microfiber pads for it about 2 years ago. Uses distilled water and you can do a medium-sized room on one fill.
I’d probably do a couple extra flushes and wait and see
Maybe dump some drain-o down there to encourage the roll to break down.
On the microfiber pads, I bought some microfiber cleaning cloths at the dollar store and cut them down to fit. I got two per cloth, and they go through the wash just like the official ones.
My cleaner uses a thicker microfiber pad that velcros to it. It’s washable afterwards, but needs to line dry. So microfiber cloths wouldn’t work.
Mine also uses a thicker microfiber pad that Velcros to it and line dries. They definitely want me to think a dollar store cleaning rag would not work. And yet they stick to the Velcro just fine and work well.
I’ve always been recommended to take ibuprofen with food. But if you need to take some and feel full or absolutely not the slightest peckish, does that count as “taking with food”? Or should I still eat something small?
Confluence
I need to set up a Confluence space for my team. This is a new tool for me. Suggestions? Walkthroughs?
Generally I am a user of something before I’m making it, and the stuff I’ve been reading so far has not been helpful on the details or best practices, it’s just all thought-leadership-goo
