Pregnancy is weird

First few weeks I did a hoodie or sweater over nothing most days. Then a regular wide strap tank under a regular shirt or just a regular shirt. Pulling up a regular shirt is mine and :lion: s favourite option. I have kindred bravely bras from @Clare-Dragonfly that work well for leaving the house or having family over like in laws. Or living with in laws.

I bought soft cup underwrite bras from motherhood maternity around month wtf knows of pregnancy. I think they were my fourth or fifth upside. Close to month seven, it became an option to wear these out, and it is way better for my self esteem. The little nursing sling means they still fit even if they are too big. They are a pain to nurse in, and the baby doesn’t love the fabric near his face, but they also still work now that he’s only nursing like every 2h for 15 minutes instead of every 5 minutes for 90 minutes.

Because he nursed like a mofo for months, I just adjusted to the public seeing my stomach and tits. The only nursing top I can understand is the one from @Smacky and old navy. Really low cut tops or yanking up a shirt are fine. The more covered I try to be during nursing the more the child will uncover me. I did buy a poncho scarf recently and on cold days if he is also cold, he lets me cover all of me and him except his face and my boob.

As much as I advocate for maternity pants and shirts, I advocate against spending a lot on nursing stuff.

Yeah, since the boob situation is insane around here, the band doesn’t actually touch me at all. That probably helps.

Yeah i see two huge variables here- 1, time of year. Latte was a November baby. Shit was cold haha. 2, with a c section, several inches to the top and the bottom can do (and for me, did) the insane nerve hypersensitivity thing. Having my stomach exposed to air was virtually unbearable for a couple months.

Strongly agree.

I found this to be the case too. If I had a store where I could try things in person and found some amazing stuff I might have felt differently. I also wore a lot of loose button up shirts, nice fabrics if I needed to look more professional or flannels for the rest of the time.

Oh and I had a severe case of being “touched out” and it was probably similar to BJ’s experience with the stomach, in that my nerves were very sensitive so what I could wear was totally dependent on that. I had to work out how to stop stray hair brushing my cheeks because the sensation was so painful.

Same! Oh my gosh. I legitimately cut some hairs off that wouldnt stop being fly aways, my skin was just crawling so much. I figured it was a poor reaction to the pain meds I was on for a couple weeks, but maybe it’s more universal than I realized.

Oh no, it’s a thing. I was really lucky someone mentioned it to me beforehand, it was horrible and gave me several meltdowns.

Which is a good reminder that I need to talk to my therapist about it, because it was a factor in my PPA/D.

I got that way really bad when Latte was on her feeding strike that made our LC tap out. She’D shove me away and scream and thrash and a couple times I just laid her down and told my husband “she’s yours” and just left. Awwwwful sensation.

Thank you so much everyone for the tips! @Bracken_Joy & @Economista the uniform sounds right up my alley.

I appreciate the note about waiting to buy things. I was about to get a handful of tops. I’ve gone from XS/S to L in tops (32" to 39" bust) although some ribbed cotton tanks still fit. And I think I will feel the same anti-bra inclinations – I just returned an XL bra because although it technically fits, the elastic under-bust is so unappealing.

I know this is not scientifically true but it feels like I might expand foreverrrr. I’m up 35 pounds so far and still have 8 weeks to go. I’ll probably get one nursing tank with a shelf bra in my current size, but wait to buy more. The Motherhood Maternity tanks look perfect and simple and well-priced.

I hope you got a trophy for this, damn. You deserve a trophy :trophy:.

When I was nursing especially when going in public I would wear a tank top under whatever I was wearing and a nursing bra. I found cheap ones on Amazon that have held up pretty well over 2 years. Like @Ckny27 I kind of wish I had bought nicer ones because I wore them for so long! Maybe if I’m lucky enough to have a next time! It seems I am an exception but my ribs are so not the same size as before pregnancy.

Yeahhhh. Luckily I figured out how to halt the fall, but we were under way to feeding therapy/possibly a feeding tube. Between me, the Internet, and my husband, we found how she would eat. (Dark room, semi asleep, white noise, cold, in a sleep sack, ONLY) and I proceeded to do that every 3 hours, non stop, from 3-6 months of life for her. OH and I went completely dairy and soy free.

But, she’s 10 months now, has stayed on her new weight curve, and we’re still breastfeeding. She Does really well with solids too.

My rib cage only just went back to the same size as before pregnancy. I’m 10 months postpartum. It lagged my weight return to baseline by 3 months.

That was my mom. She stayed expanded.

I managed to grab a bunch of maternity clothes in some different sizes from my buy nothing group. Do you have a buy nothing group in your area that you could put the call out on?

Baby is three weeks old and my wardrobe is very limited.

I have lounge pants, button up nighties, tshirts and feeding singlets. If I leave the house I have maternity jeans or one pair of shorts that has an elastic waist and wear those with a tshirt /singlet combination. I also have some playsuits with breastfeeding access that fit but since I have the baby in a carrier a lot, they make bathroom visits very challenging.

I’m holding off buying things because last pregnancy what fit and was comfortable in the first month or two was very different to what worked after that. Having limited reasons to leave the house due to having a baby during a global pandemic at least means I don’t need to worry too much that most of my fitting clothes are pajamas.

This is a post pregnancy question but does anyone have experience with reusable nursing pads with a newborn?

I used disposables ones with my first until my supply had settled down. I’ve tried using the washable ones I have with this newborn but they are insufficient. I still need to sleep on a towel and end up needing to wash the sheets regardless. Periodically during the day I end up with wet patches on my shirt. I wonder if it the ones I have not being good enough, or will it be a problem with any others I try too?

I found some of the boutiques sold larger ones that covered more of my boob, but since I found them after my sleeping-on-towel weeks, I can’t speak for nighttime effectiveness.

I didn’t leak, but for my friends who did if it was anything but light milk dribbles, reusables didn’t cut it.
