Pregnancy is weird

Weird hyperemesis gravidarum things: i have cravings but cant eat the things i crave, so i text them to my husband so that hopefully he will eat them and enjoy them on my behalf.

Eating is improving but not at the point where i can have pepperoni pizza, for instance.

“metallic saliva tastes normally disappear by second trimester, 12 - 14 weeks”

Glares from 17 weeks

Oh nooo I never had that experience during pregnancy but it takes me back to doing stims. There was one medicine in an injection pen that tasted metallic. Yes, even though you don’t swallow it. It was deeply unpleasant and I’m sorry you are still experiencing something similar!

Havent done IVF but I hate the way the flush tastes and smells when they run it through my veins when I’m in to get topped up on IV fluids. Similar thing.

Ooh this is a question for everyone, and I would like reasoning/ reputable references if you have it!

Some family are going to be overseas when bub is born. I require everyone who visits before 6 weeks to have their whooping cough vax, but what about quarantine period for after overseas trips? It’s local family going on an overseas holiday, not overseas family planning a visit. I am leaning towards 4 weeks after they get home AND baby has been vaccinated at 6 weeks (plus a week for vaccines to start to be effective?), but not sure what is practical and reasonable.

Hmmm is there something specific in terms of illnesses that you are concerned about?

I would lean towards looking up typical incubation times for things like RSV, Covod, flu. I think if everyone feels fine (no sniffles a full week after they return and test negative) then there’s a very low chance of them being sick. Maybe two weeks if you want to be really safe. I’m having a hard time thinking about anything that would present after a full month.

Here in the US there are over the counter tests for multiple things at once not just COVID.

Hospitals here asked about 10 days from SARS to covid, and now the question is 2 weeks. While I do have mental scars that a new thing could happen, 4 seems long but if my relative said 4 I wouldn’t argue.

Would you consider a distanced garden visit or masks and sanitizer before a full visit?

Agreed- I’d think of GI bugs and upper respiratory viruses as the transmissible risks here. 10-14 days would be the longest I would personally consider.

Also this! If 4 is what you ask for then I would totally respect that. Some people do 4 weeks just so they can settle into family life. Your new baby, your rules.

I would go 2 weeks AND symptom-free but require mask & handwashing upon entry immediately anyway. At that point a local grocery visit or a coffee shop is as much of a threat as overseas germs.

If they’re coming back from somewhere in particular you can look up any travel advisories for that region to see what types of infectious risks to watch out for that could take longer to present.

Ok cool this all sounds good, and I went and looked up actual expected incubation times on some govt health websites and 14 days is reasonable. I have some multi-virus tests I can give them to do before they come over as well.

I also talked to a friend and actually I maybe just dont want to see anybody  so yeah might claim an overly conservative timeline just so their feelings arent hurt and then reduce the time if I decide I’m ready for a visit. They aren’t “super helpful with a newborn” family so waiting a bit won’t disadvantage us at all.

Definitely would, as long as its not 40C - I’m not sure what their travel dates are but late Feb/ early March is very hot here.

I think this is how I’ll be feeling, especially with 2 older kids who have just started the school year and wanting to support them with the new baby transition. I wont have energy for anyone who isnt 100% there to just help us.

when you actually WANT visitors is an entirely separate question

OK after 18 weeks of First trimester I’ve reached the 4 weeks of Second Trimester where everything feels ok (not as good as not being pregnant, but i am feeling normal even though i am not normal) and then I have 18 weeks of Third Trimester when I am waddling around.

Anyway the trimester system is liiiiies. Useful for doctors, lies for the experience and symptoms. (Also i am already waddling a bit. So.)

I ate a burger! :sob: Every time i eat a food i feel so much closer to normal again.

Also started on iron :muscle: nauseous for an hour after but that’s manageable. I take a liquid one so i can slowly ease the dose up and keep symptoms where I’m ok with them. Also started on them almost 2 months earlier than last pregnancy which is gonna help a lot.
