Good info, interesting! LMK how the meatball soup turns out, sounds really good.
We have looked at EQ before. We decided we would prefer a local brick and mortar bank to deal with.
Meatballs perhaps not my favourite in terms of spicing, and I probably overcooked them, but the ssamjang-inspired tare worked very well. And those eggs just set. (and I didn’t forget the kelp buds, they are the dark green bits that aren’t the bright green cilantro)
Ok fine I will make ramen for dinner
I don’t like meatballs in soup or hard boiled eggs but that looks deeeeeeee-licious. I may have to reconsider.
That looks so good! And yum, udon noodles are soooo good. I love the bite.
Attn all sour cream fans: look at what I found when I went to pick up my favorite yogurt. 5lbs for $7.95
Just FYI I use this thread for meal planning ideas. I suppose I should share mine so far:
French bread pizzas
Soup of some sort and grilled cheese
Risotto
That is a very winter menu
I do the same!
Meal planning:
- cream of mushroom soup in the instant pot
- spicy coconut curry tofu and veg
- veggie tacos
- veggie fajitas
- the rest of the chana masala I made last night
- pasta with freezer ratatouille and goat cheese, and/or pasta with freezer pesto
I reorganized my freezers today and discovered food that needs to be eaten. Hubby is happy. One of them is tortiere, one of his favourites!
I also found pumpernickel bread. It was on sale and it’s been in the freezer over a year. I’m guessing it’s no good by now. Regardless, I have it thawing on the counter. Any ideas what to do with it?
I’m having a great time cooking from my new Dining on a Dime cookbooks. I dislike the videos this lady puts out, but I’ve known her online since the late 1990’s. I’ve had almost every edition of her cookbooks. And used them almost weekly for 25 years. I made Mom’s Stew, Broccoli Rice Soup, and Tuna Soup this past week. So good! Hubby is loving soups for lunch. Leftovers are going to the freezer.
We have been taking turns eating with friends - one night our place, the next night theirs. We have supper and play games. I am using up the Hello Fresh meals. I make two meals for one night and we have a buffet. Friends bring salads and dessert.
In other savings measures, I rejoined the spinning and weaving guild this month. This may not seem like a savings, but I have the equivalent of four Rubbermaid Roughneck totes of fibre that need to be spun. I am hoping to improve my knowledge and technique…and spin through at least one tote this year.
Already I attended a free Zoom session where I learned I could mix my alpaca with wool and end up with yarn I could rug hook. I could also knit it and it will hold it’s shape. Alpaca doesn’t do that on its own. It’s very drapey and good for shawls…which I don’t use.
Other than that, we’re staying home and trying not to get sick. I’m avoiding online shopping. I’m focusing on using what’s in the house.
Croutons?
I threw caution to the wind yesterday and went to Aldi sans list and without doing any meal planning! I spent $120 and bought all kinds of fun stuff I never buy normally (Ramit would be proud y’all!) like pop tarts omg they’re so good!!! I also bought more bag salads and there were new flavors to try! I got a bottle of premade salad dressing too because some of the dressings are too sweet for me (the poppy seed dressing was SO SWEET) but normally I make my own so this will cut that step out too!
I got so much fun stuff you guys. Brioche burger buns! I want to make burgers and normally I make the buns but I thought…why not?! I also bought pre-made salsa! I don’t know if I’ve ever bought that before because I usually make my own but it was on sale and seemed fun. Although, I’m already thinking “I can just add some extra cilantro and hot peppers and lime and then it will be perfect!” haha. DH says I don’t understand convenience foods, because even with frozen pizza I can’t resist adding some sliced artichokes and a little fresh grated parmesan and maybe even some sautéed mushrooms, just real quick! He is right but I can’t help myself!
I also bought my usual items like eggs and cheese and veggies. It feels so decadent shopping this way with no list, but gosh it is a lot more expensive! And I don’t think I’d be so comfortable doing it if I didn’t already have a freezer full of pre-made food and a pantry fully stocked. It’ll be interesting to see what I make this week other than the burgers. I’ve been terrible about taking food pictures lately but here are some messy snapshots from last week-ish:
Your food looks SO delicious!!!
I lol’d about the pizza. I like to add pickled pepperoncini or garlic to ours. When I was a kid my dad would always add extra cheese. My mom doctors up all kinds of boxed food. From scratch is lovely, but if you can level up convenience foods with minimal effort, why not?
lol this is absolutely my approach and the only way I “cook” at the moment !!
It’s so true! I think it’s just an ongoing joke because I’ll proudly announce “I’m not cooking tonight!” and then 10 minutes later I’m “just” chopping up some cilantro, and juicing limes, and sautéing garlic, and ___. Haha. And husband is always like, “your version of not cooking is more cooking that most people’s cooking nights.” LOL.
ETA: And just to cover bases this is not meant as shade towards people who eat lots of convenience food! Cooking is literally my number one hobby and food is a huge passion for me, I get that’s not the case for a lot of people!
I’m just so grateful that you share your passion for your hobby with the rest of us with beautiful food descriptions and pics!
It’s so nice for me to share! I feel like my only art is created in a vacuum sometimes, and it’s so temporary. I wish you could all taste and smell and see it in person. I’d love to feed every one of you!
ETA: Oh and also, now that I’m obsessed with fun foods: what are all of your favorite grocery store convenience/pre-made foods? I want to try them all!
Pre made simmer sauces! Like Kevin’s and taste of India (I think is the brand?) and Suhki’s and stuff.
