Do…do I say Cher wrong?
I say Chernobyl as churr-noble.
For me, Cher is pronounced the same as share.
I suspect my accent changes everything. But I say it like the nuclear disaster. But maybe I’m mispronouncing that too.
Accents make everything different.
I think I was taught to pronounce Chernobyl incorrectly (chair-noble), and dia’s “churr-noble” is true to actual pronunciation.
I just listened to a Youtube video and I think it’s somewhere in between haha.
I am sure I say Chernobyl and not churr or chair but what if I don’t? What if it’s like axolotl
What if my green is different to your green?
What is axolotl like?!?
It’s supposed to be said axghlohtl or something but English speakers are saying axe uh lotl enough that it is becoming a recognized pronounciation. My 6yo does not recognize the Anglicized version but that is mostly because he can make more sounds than me and likes to be correct
Spouse loves axolotl trivia. The “-tl” represents a plosive T sound in the original Nahuatl, not too dissimilar from “ocelot” but it got transliterated differently “for historical reasons”. I’m less sure about the first part but I think it’s more of a “shh” sound than a “ks” so it’s something sort of like “ash-eh-lot”
I can find a Mexican and get them to say axlotl to me if that helps.
That would help alotl
Record them so we can hear it.

We do not have infinite typewriters - I type from my typewriter with television, radio and phone technology in bed.
