This was specifically about elementary schools that start at 7:45 and it was said in the comments about teenagers circadian rhythms. Wish they’d been aware of that back when I was in a high school that started at 7:15AM. I don’t know what time the buses did pick up because I never took the bus in the mornings, we carpooled with other families.
I know if we had had a second child we definitely would’ve had a night owl picky eater introvert. Because of course.
It me! Getting up for a bus that left at 7:10am throughout highschool. We’ve got a 7month old and a 3yo. And our Timezone is kind of wrong and our state hates daylight saving. So we end up with 4:45am sunrise by December with it starting to get light by not much after 4am. And sunset by 6:30ish. Lame.
Saaaaaammmmmeeee. I also shock myself when I remember the job I had for 4 months that had me regularly opening at 5:30am. It was a 15 minute commute so I would sometimes be waking up before 5. Horrifying.
Yep I fed horses and birds (chickens, quail, pheasants), did water for the sheep in our field, then rode my bike 8 miles to school to BE THERE for a 7:30 class start. I was up at 5 every day, during a period when I had wicked insomnia. I was sleeping like 3 hours a night back then. So messed up and unsustainable.
Denver is supposed to be shifting to all middle and high schools starting at 8:30 or later… but I will believe it when I see it.
I wish I could use start time as a factor in choosing a middle school for my kids, but these are known to change without warning in the couple weeks before school starts.
In my parents’ time in their home country, I guess tthere must have been a teacher shortage, and it wasn’t uncommon to have school in shifts, for all grades, something like 8-1 and 1-6. Obviously a long work day for teachers, I’m not saying its ideal. Just interesting. Also my mom was definitely a night owl but hated afternoon school because doing hw in the morning never worked for her.
Did you know the new Fisher Price record player has a battery? What else will they discover in this teardown? (You’ll be shocked to find out what is under the lid, I know I was.)
The hidden reveal was a delight, lol. But GOD do I have a hard time navigating long Twitter threads. It’s so easy to miss the damn see more replies thing on that spot.
yeah, I wish there was an easy non exploitive way to share the long threads (many of the rollup apps have problems with monetizing and not compensating the original writer)
