Laughing and crying with you
Yeah and guess what age my younger kid is as my older one finally improves somewhat
lololol.
Oh no! I totally lucked out in that my first kid was so easy-going around food. He liked trying new things!! He eats a wide variety of food! Our only issue with him is trying to get him to not shove food in his mouth and eat like a civilized person (heās 6). Then my second child came aroundā¦. And now Iām carrying around emotional-support string cheese everywhere we go.
Though Iām told she eats most of what they serve at daycare, and they serve a good variety of (kid-friendly) food. So - I have hope sheāll grow out of this since it seems she can be peer-pressured into trying stuff.
So you mean my kid is going to start eating even fewer vegetables soon? Pffffffff
Yep! But it will eventually someday get better!
We do a LOT of broccoli at my house because it can be made easily alongside almost anything and Pipsqueak will eat it if it comes out of the oven at exactly the right temperature and level of crispness.
Butā¦sheās 5.5 and yesterday mixed together all the individual components of the āstir fryā that I had out on her plate (rice + carrots+ broccoli + tofu + sauce) so I think weāre just peaking through to the other side of pickiness.
Toddler brains are so wild. Last night TR was a little crumbly (late dinner, happy but long day) and absolutely lost his little mind when his brother walked upstairs for bath faster than he did, and then again when his brother climbed out of the tub first. āBrother left me! He LEFT me!ā he wailed.
So of course at 3am he woke up, cried to go downstairs, then immediately turned to go back upstairs again. He crowed to me āI was the first one up the stairsā, and then fell back asleep.
Poor little guy, heās so upset about being smaller sometimes! This happens every few months if he has a struggle day, and Iāve gotten more used to recognizing heās just processing or replaying something heās grappling with. Iām glad I didnāt fight him on going downstairs since that would have resulted in a longer meltdown and kept me up longer.
That is adorable! Iām glad you recognize it with him.
I bravely messaged a parent to ask for a PA day play date Friday!
With caveat, different for different kids. My eldest started coming out of it at 7.5-8yo. And is still very restrictive.
Not necessarily veggies. We make a lot of assumptions about kid food. But restrictive can be a weird list. Like my oldest will eat asparagus and artichokes, raw cucumbers and peppers. But she likes 2 shapes of pasta, wonāt touch ketchup or any other sauces, etc etc. You never know. You may well have a kid like mine who usually likes sauerkraut but wonāt eat Mac and cheese for 4 years.
Gold star for myself for checking out lots of different products to see what worked. Others were meh but this one I like and I think all 3rd through 5th graders (and probably other grades) should be using as they encounter new math concepts - grid paper with larger grids and itās
rainbow
which is fun just for being colorful but itās also tremendously helpful in kids keeping track of columns as they get into multidigit stuff. And for Kiddo with his not great handwriting, it helps the numbers be a reasonable font size and not quadruple size. (My handwriting is at the top, his is towards the bottom as he got the hang of the concept we were going over.)
The brand name is Keep It Straight which is funny during Pride with the rainbow paper.

Ugh I feel so seen. Other parents are worrying about their kids eating vegetables and Iām literally trying to get my kid to eat⦠pizza. A grilled cheese. A perfect strawberry. All are a no-go. She also doesnāt eat vegetables so life is great right now
Last night I made a wonderful dinner - Greek chicken, quinoa, diced cucumbers, tomatoes, and avocado, hummus, and homemade tzatziki sauce. Plus cantaloupe on the side. D1 ateā¦veggie straws. Thatās it
I give up
Oh my gosh, that sounds delightful. Iād have eaten hers! Sorry we have similarly picky eaters!
Oh that sounds good! Maybe Iāll use a greek style marinade on tonightās chicken to ignore
Thank God, my child will eat guacamole and does not shame her Californian ancestors.
All the gold stars for me being patient about avocado lol
Mine is just getting back into guacamole but will spoon out avocado from the peel and eat it whole so sheās doing ok! I was worried because I was technically not born in California (move back before I was 2) and therefore sheās technically a 1st generation Californian and not 4th or 5th. ![]()
This is the first time Chickadee has eaten any sort of is avocado and enjoyed it!
