Funny Thing You Saw Today

Brought to you by the cat who apparently decided to sleep on top of the refrigerator door last night–to be clear, the door, not the refrigerator itself–fell on my head when I opened it to get a glass of water in the middle of the night, and then got annoyed at me about it.

You don’t keep onions in the fridge? Where do you put them?

Still in their papery outsides I keep them in the cupboard with the potatoes and garlic!

Huh! Maybe I just have more fridge space than counter/ cupboard space but anything fresh goes in the fridge for me, including potatoes and garlic.

It’s too hot here to keep onions in the pantry sadly, well maybe they last about 1-2 weeks, but if I’m buying a lot at once, I toss them in the fridge because they go bad so quickly otherwise!

Yep, potatoes, onions, and getting all go in the fridge. Plus I’ve heard having onions in the fridge keeps the “makes you cry” chemicals from being as aggravating. I don’t know if that’s true though.

I just used my last potatoes and onions tonight but they live here.

I really want mine to live in my pantry. I’ve tried a lot of tips like putting them in brown bags, keeping them in a dark corner, etc. I don’t know why it doesn’t work here! I don’t keep my home excessively hot either, it’s never above 78 degrees. Super weird! When I lived in CO I could keep so much more out on the counter or in the pantry

Humidity maybe??
I don’t keep stuff in there for ages or it sprouts. But it’ll keep well for a few weeks and by then I’ve eaten it

It’s not humidity. I keep mine in a dark cabinet were they last for 3 weeks or better, and we are the ultimate in humidity.

Potatoes do need to be in the dark so they won’t sprout.
