I did not know American badgers existed 
Oh they do - I encountered one in the wild once! I would NOT want to encounter one in a back alley - it wouldn’t even threaten you with a shiv, I’m pretty sure it’d just stab you and take all your stuff. 
(Technically it ran away from us, but it gave the best over-the-shoulder vampire hiss I’ve ever seen an animal do IRL. I wish I had gotten a photo! Alas, this was before the days when people just carried pocket computers around.)
You obviously are not from the great state of Wisconsin, whose official state animal is the badger.
I honestly thought European badgers were just cartoons or American badgers with really good PR. I didn’t realize there were badgers that cute in real life.
It reminds me of american VS Australian possums.
Our impression is that everything in Australia is 10 times as deadly so I’m just going to assume your possums have poisonous throwing spiders or something.
