Funny Thing You Saw Today

A dog I had a long time ago was destructive like that from separation anxiety. He chewed holes in the wall and legit ripped apart library books which I found in the back yard.

Yes my dogs destructive behaviors were due to separation anxiety as well. She was a really good kennel dog, and very happy and safe there. We tried a few times unsuccessfully to give her a room to herself or something like that when leaving, but it just didn’t work for her!

We tried putting Percy in a kennel too. I have no idea how she ended on the outside of the kennel. This was the very first day we left her alone so we could go to work, I came back at lunch time to check on her and let her go potty and I came home to this. The toy, kibble bowl, and I think the green towel were all in her crate when we left. The white thing is a draft stopper that had been under the door.

When we left that morning (borrowed crate till we bought a proper one)

My sister had a dog that had extreme separation anxiety (likely from being taken from her mother at too young an age) and she chewed and swallowed anything and everything. She chewed up and swallowed so much plastic stuff that it congealed in her stomach (complete with spikey chewed parts) and made her stomach bleed. She had to have a surgery to get it out. (She also completely destroyed heavy duty crates and she couldn’t have anything in the crate with her (not even the plastic bottom tray) because she would eat it.) The solution was to adopt a second dog, who I guess was her emotional support dog. She completely stopped the crazy anxiety behavior once they got the second!

The beagle I grew up with ate, among other things: 3 seat belts, the drywall in our laundry room, innumerable shoe laces, ummm a raft. Separation anxiety is no fun.

This sounds so much like my dog. When I got her she’d already had stomach surgery to remove plastic that she ate. I had to get her stomach pumped once because she somehow got on top of the counter when I wasn’t in the room and ate 10 pounds of dry dog food. I would have loved to get her a friend dog but she basically hated all other dogs, except for her old dog sibling where she lived before I adopted her. I always felt so bad for her

Percy looks so proud of her escape artist skills. Admire the craft!

She’s like “hi mom! Look how smart I am!”

“Yaaaaaay, I did it! And you’re back! I love you!”

I think she was still in her crate when we came home later.
