Do you think your family saves money with a SAHP?

Love this.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

This is super understandable. I’d like to do my job PT, but I wouldn’t be able to find my job PT. It would be something different and likely something much less interesting to me.

I am absolutely a believer in stepping out of the system whenever you can. I think your current setup sounds ideal, though.

Yayyyy!

Yeah I am a SAHP but not a housekeeper. Fuck that poop. Did you know some people think I should watch my kids at the park?mmmm no thanks. That defeats the purpose

Hahaaaaa!!! Some people (my kid) believe that not only do I need to watch them, but participate alongside them omg

I do this and yep can confirm it is the best thing ever. It was a terrible thing when I was working for a consulting firm, because the required 95% project work on my timesheet was impossible to make happen (which quite frankly was an issue before I had a kid & went part-time, but it became worse with my PPD). Now I jobshare 50% FTE at a local gov’t and the pace is perfection. Have been doing it for 12 months and extremely sustainable for me. Specifically jobsharing might be a concept a manager/ HR might understand and be willing to arrange if there’s a coworker or hiring in someone at the other part-time makes sense to them buuuuut USA and all your benefits nonsense  (And I never got paid the “high wages for consultants” so there’s been no sacrifice of my wages either). Ponder is full time but several days from home over the past couple of years, so we have had a lot of flexibility.

But yeah no hidden savings. I also was disabled while “being the SAHP” and it was like i can somewhat parent buuuuuut i am not cleaner, cook or more than 80% household manager, ymmv.

I had to do this until the kids were at least 2.5yo because most playgrounds have a sheer cliff 2m off the ground  not my favourite playground design…

Strong agree. And I find it weird how within the FIRE movement there’s a tendency to have a stance against SAHPs?? Like??? Would you like it better if I say I’m RE and he’s coast FI and oh by the way I watch our kids?? wtf :joy:

Because it was irresponsible to have kids BEFORE FIRE. And because bills should be split or some shit.
