50+ years ago my uncle put his in a watering can and put it on the dirt road he lived on to keep the dust down. I am not sure if we all didn’t know better then or if he was just terrible.
No. Twice a month you can drop off certain things like e-waste and batteries. For paint and chemicals it is the once a year date.
My grandparents lived on a road that was “paved” with loose oyster shells and the city came through every summer and sprayed them down with oil.
But also everyone sprayed DDT around.
I wish I’d known! I’d have brought you gallon milk jugs. We go through a good amount of milk in our house.
My credit union allows members to use a coin machine for free. I take a jar when I have to go for something else and deposit the $ back into my account or to pay down the cc or… ? (Depends on what’s going on.)
I finally sold that stupid wall cabinet. Had to cut the price way back but at this point I don’t care, it is gone!
That’s good inspiration. I have a huge coffee table from the huge house I moved from over 20 years ago. The used furniture store only offered me $100 for it maybe 10 years ago and I’m sure I paid over $800. I’d be happy to get $100 for it now just to be rid of it. Maybe I’ll check with them again.
Found more report cards in the filing cabinet. Another half inch of space reclaimed!
Posted the unused instapot on marketplace. ETA: sold and gone! I think I price things way too low.
Anyways, 12 cup coffee maker is next, which my friend who bought the ceiling fans is going to ask her boyfriend if he wants it. Apparently he was looking for one? If he doesn’t want it then I will post it up.
Today I am giving a whole pile of old socks to a crafter friend who cuts them up and weaves them into pot holders. She requests this! And yes they are clean! ![]()
Also bringing a bunch of unwanted craft supplies to the craft meetup i am headed to shortly.
another person asked about the light yesterday, but hasn’t replied to me asking when they could pick it up.
I have decided to leave it for now, and posted a few kitchen things from the basement that university students might find useful. If they aren’t claimed before next weekend I think I’ll put them on the sidewalk with ‘free’, and if that doesn’t move them, I’ll drop them at value village.
the marketplace randos are such a cast of wtf
I know value village has its problems, but there has to be something better. Ok, I have blocked the person who I shouldn’t have engaged with, and agreed to the person who only wants part of the set. I’ll do the other pieces later.
she says she will pick it up tomorrow. it will be good to have it out of the basement, it’s awkward and breakable and a dust magnet. Maybe I put it out in one of the plastic tubs with a cracked lid and offer that to her as well.
just slowly moving the pieces that bug me the most at any particular time. Means the harder ones will be later, but at least there will be more space once we get to them.
Today I am tackling this! It is all bracelets. Mostly bracelets that I have been given or that I caught. Some are hopelessly tangled. I need to pare down. I can rethrow anything that is intact. Let’s gooooo
ETA: SCORE!! I found a long missing favorite earring in here! I had given up hope!
I went from 36 to 21 bracelets!
I was going to jettison the “What Would Dolly Do” bracelet but well. Now I am keeping it.
I just had a friend ask in the group chat for beads so she can make bracelets for an upcoming event. I need to send her to NOLA
Another box of books gone. I talked about clearing a box from the porch, and the books going to the swap shop, but hadn’t noted it otherwise. So, yeah, one more box outta here!
Today I am tackling this box. Fabric paint which is what I use for glitter transfers. Most of this was gifted to me and probably half of it does not suit my needs or is dried up or otherwise not good.
Today was bulk trash day and we remembered to take out the old mattress and mattress pad. Goodwill won’t take strollers and no one wanted it on BuyNothing, so the stroller also went out! That felt kind of momentous!
We also put out a floor lamp missing a shade. Someone picked it up before the trash people did, which is great! Surprised no one took the stroller but it’s pretty end-of-life TBH. It’s a Chicco Bravo that I bought before the cuckoo was born at a consignment sale, for $50.
the light is gone, and I decided to try posting the plastic bins again. This time I got four pings within 30 minutes. So at least 8 of the bins are scheduled for pickup today, and I have potential people for the other 7, or backup if pickup falls through.
I guess that is what happens when I put in a bit more effort with dusting and doing photography on a wood floor instead of a dingy basement tile floor with bad lighting.
