I’ll need to take photos later but her greatest hits include: a rocket ship that is 4’ tall and makes noise. Cannot be broken down or stored in any way. My daughter loves it and it’s been out in our house (currently in her room) for 3 years now.
A 4’ long, weighted alpaca stuffed animal that my dog desperately wants to murder. Lives in my daughter’s closet as “witness protection” because of whatever feral urges it gives our tiny wolf. A ride on roller coaster the length of our entire giant front room. This at least sort of breaks down to store? Still massive though.
The fibershed group does a clothing swap in January and I am gathering stuff for that. January seems like a good time for it!
My MIL isn’t as bad as yours but we’ve gotten a couple of large gifts from her over the years (a large toy tool bench, a bean bag chair that takes up a 3’x3’ space). Her house is a lot more cluttered than mine on a day to day basis so I think she sees all the space and thinks “they have plenty of room!” whereas I see “these are walk ways around furniture, why would you fill it with crap?”
That is probably precisely it. I do toy rotations and keep lots of open space for the INSANE physical play my children favor. Their house isn’t cluttered per se, but it’s certainly got more chairs and couches and displayed saddles and bookshelves than I would put in a space.
100% not the point and I support you in MiL anger, but those gifts sound rad as hell. If only you lived in a giant mansion where they could be relegated to the Children’s Wing
Oh they so are, and the kids love them. It just feels like an act of war to keep buying this stuff without warning.
I’m sensing a theme here lol
I noticed that my notebook drawer is crammed full and went through all the notebooks—I picked out a huge stack to give away! Someone on BN is interested but we don’t have a pickup date scheduled so ![]()
After I did that, due to some other rearranging, I noticed two notebooks I think I will use but had put aside because they didn’t fit in the drawer. They do now! And there’s some extra room, which is probably unnecessary because I’ll be starting a new bullet journal in a month or two and thus making even more space!
I’m glad I took a before picture because the after isn’t as “done” as I would like but it’s a lot better. And I had already put away a bin of Christmas decorations prior to taking the before picture.
And soon those boxes will be gracing my spare room and out of your house forever!
Today I decluttered a changing table and mat, spare baby toys/sheets/electronics. Probably a solid 20+ items.
I cut down the wooden legs of my sofa and instead of keeping the cut off bits with their little plastic feet, I threw them away.
I also threw away a frozen lasagna that I have had for years. I am never going to eat it. Why did I feel the need to move it to my new apartment??
I got rid of 5 expired puffers today and put several fresh ones out.
Then my 3yo spilled glue and rifled through my room (yay healthier) so I am cleaning my room - aka finding the surfaces and lots is being thrown out and lots is less cluttered.
Post Mardi Gras we are doing a DEEP declutter. Every drawer, cabinet, and closet.
Yesterday I tackled 1 drawer in the bathroom. I threw out spent nail files and face gems, and some dried out glitter. It’s a start!
It’s such a good season for you to declutter! The rest of the year has so many projects and this can be a regular reset.
I want to declutter more, but I think I want to declutter other people’s stuff which is frowned upon
Why are they all so judgmental when you’re being helpful? Rude.
A lot of us here treat this as New Year’s. Good time for a reset for sure!
You should come declutter my stuff. I keep trying and my brain short circuits.
You all have inspired me and I’ve been doing some decluttering! I cleaned up my toiletry + travel area, and the top rack in my closet. I consolidated and organized our medicine which isSO satisfying.
Somehow I’ve only managed to clean up my own or shared stuff even though other people’s stuff is the problem, just like @ElleP ’s house
Yes I do have some short term disability paperwork due soon that I don’t want to handle, why do you ask
I caught up on dog health insurance reimbursements too! Some of them went back to July of last year
