We currently do two options for each! It’s so cool to see that even at this little age they have opinions on clothing. SHouldn’t be surprising I guess since he has an opinion on everything…
I recently read someone who described their child as an “adorner” and that is SO accurate to Latte. She has cared what she wears for AGES, and she loves that Accessory Life. Her dress up shelf and little mirrors sees a lot of action. But only ever on her own terms. GOD FORBID anyone else try to put a hat, sunglasses, bows/headband, etc on her when it’s not her idea.
It’s funny to read this today when I just got a picture in my FB memories that shows Daughter accessorizing as a toddler. It’s not too wild; she was on her way to “school” (daycare) but I have just always loved her ideas of adornment at this age. A sock on her hand, a chalk bucket as a handbag.
Oh, and yes, she has cared what she wears for a long time. I still remember the heartbreak I felt when I picked out a perfectly coordinating outfit for her (probably some cute thing from Gymboree) and she rejected it and went to her closet and made her own choices. I was like… wait, don’t have a few years of choosing for you left? She wasn’t even two. And then my cousin’s daughter let her choose everything until she was at least eight. No fair!
This is phenomenal. She has so much style! Who knew a hand sock would be so fabulous?
Thank you! She still has it at 14. You should see her Instagram!
Face might be reflected in the last one? Just FYI
Her style is amazing though.
Oh, ty. Hmm I think I’ll leave it for now because it seems pretty grainy? But I may come back and delete, ty for the heads up!
My child also needs to pick her own clothes out. I just let her because we’ll then I don’t have a fight. It makes for some entertaining choices.
Adorable! I especially love the ones with the backpack. Big kid going off to conquer the world!
I definitely put up some pictures of my updated desk area recently on my journal and then later was like shit my kid definitely signed his art work in huge, readable letters. And I had already cropped out some mail from that picture dangit!
Kiddo only recently (like after he turned 6) started caring about what he wears, and even that is just shirt selection. I try to do it at bedtime to make the mornings easier, I remember about 90% of the time. His closet came with a wire shelf low enough for him to access so his hanging shirts are at his height already, then I added other bins/cube shelves at his height. I’m also trying periodically to encourage him to help put away laundry, that plus putting away what dishes he can reach earns him a quarter.
I remember when my daughter proudly explained to me that yes, her clothes did match, because both her shorts and her shirt had flowers on them! Wildly differing, bold flower patterns.
So many scarves, glasses, mittens, hats, and bags. She has an old lunchbox og my moms she likes to carry like a purse. And an old tin bucket she likes to fill with Nature on walks. It’s a whole thing.
She even picks her shoes and socks every day. She has. Strong opinions. I’ve just aways yielded to her as long as it’s seasonally appropriate and safe lol.
@Elle here’s the rotation discussion!!
I totally agree that rotation is awesome !!! We don’t have a lot of toys (no matter what MrM says ) so it helps that we can rotate them so he doesn’t get bored.
Have we discussed tags? Tags on clothes. On toys. The strings on my pants, VERY in-favour toy right now. Zip on my jacket is earning me a 10 minute quiet time on the floor with occasional grunts/ whinge.
One can buy blankets that are literally surrounded by tags on all sides, but my understanding is that babies can tell which one is the “real” tag and prefer it.
Correct. We have tag toys. They aren’t as good, she tells me.
Bubble wrap on the kitchen floor is now an ocean.
Singing and making up actions to Peter Combe songs. These albums came out before I was born and the kids singing in them must be 40+ now. They are timeless and Duckling is cackling at the absurdity and perfection of them.
