Thank you - He’s very ill, but stable right now. We’re in the “well we knew generally what was wrong with him earlier, but wow this new thing is sure weird” phase of testing and treatment.

I feel like i’m getting a nursing degree by osmosis.

Week 1 Check-In. I’m giving it another week but I think I will need to recast. There were a few things I forgot about when setting the goals: school pictures, D1’s birthday, and Halloween. We also had an unplanned home improvement project pop up this week when we discovered that the toilet was leaking and had been for some time. In addition to a wax seal I also needed to replace the flooring.

Wins - I cancelled our membership to the rec center because it will be cheaper to just pay per visit when we go swimming, and we cancelled DH’s 2nd judo club membership. He doesn’t have a ride to the secondary club anymore so we were able to cancel that. Student loan payments start this month and I planned for that payment, but on the Mohela website it looks like my payment for Oct is still $0? I am enrolled in auto-pay and it says that my payment is due on Oct 28 and the amount is $0. I applied for the SAVE plan at the end of August and was just approved 2 weeks ago - maybe that is why?

Do I remember you are currently enrolled in school? Could be why

Nope!

I have spent a hilarious $465 on groceries in the first week of October! Lol

That includes our monthly trip to Costco, so 3 bags of coffee beans, 4 bottles of wine, and a pair of snow pants for the little boy.

Dh and I went out for lunch this week for his birthday. Restaurant food is so expensive and yet so mediocre! We’ll get Chinese takeout this week for DD’s birthday which I think we all like better anyway.

I have thought several times this week about the credit union $ but haven’t actually done anything. Possibly this week will be its week!

Week 1 check in: October might look a bit low as we had a few big one off purchases last month but i may just keep tracking a bit longer after the month ends.
Currently just tracking spend to see where we are sitting for now.

Groceries: 84.58
Charity: 30
Car: 55.40
Eating out: 39.50

Grocery pickup on Sunday the 1st: $96.23. $34 of that was dog food and a new brush for Elder Kitty because she’s getting some matted areas. Also husband ate out twice because of going to see a relative who’s in intensive care. Cost dollar XXX

Monday the 2nd: Husband bought lunch at work for $xxx

Not counting a $25 Walmart trip on the second even though I usually count Walmart as “grocery”. But I bought no food on the $25 trip, just wiper blades and an auxiliary cable.

Dang, I need to look up the rest to track properly but it’s Sunday night and my head hurts so leaving this her and will put specific numbers tomorrow. There was also eating out at our big annual event plus a work trip.

I forgot to actually set a budget on October 1 :))

  • I’ve gotten into a system of combining banking app logs and paper lists into a spreadsheet. It’s more work but I still do a lot of cash payments so tracking is weird.
  • I can have a $30 takeout limit per week (Week 1: ~$32) this is what I’ll actually be tracking
  • Can’t even start thinking about gifts budget because I just got a surprise line item for rabies shots :)) At least I had money saved up? :)))))) LORD
  • Okay I want to try tracking my iced drinks budget too. I spent $14 in Week 1 - maybe I can get this down to $12?

This week did not go well. I will explain more tomorrow, but I overspent already, only wrote a few things down, just a mess. Tomorrow is a new week though.

That’s why it is a whole month long!! So many opportunities to start over

Week 1 check-in.
Whew, I need to simplify things. I try to make all things money as set-it-and-forget-it as I can but me a year ago must have had a lot more energy for this than I do now.

Over the week I got re-acquainted with everything and did a quick pass of finding the easy things to trim out. Reaching the new budget goals (bc of a recent jolt to my finances) is going to be pretty hard.

Ahhhh!! What are you making

Checking in a second time: spent $94.00 at grocery store. This leaves $219.56 for the category for the month.

I may have trouble making it through the month on this budget as there are 5 Sundays in the month.

Week 1 update!

  • spending is tracked!
  • I am back up to date in YNAB ,from August when I last reconciled everything!

Good news: despite higher than expected home/car insurance September, I didn’t have to finesse things too much!

Bad news: My grocery spending remains higher than I expect, but cutting it down seems like a lot of work for minimal reward.

On to the savings rate spreadsheet and insurance nonsense!

Ok, so numbers. I hope these eating out figures reflect a whole lot of one-offs that don’t happen too often (family death and funeral, our big annual event for our sport, a one-day work trip wedged in between).

October 1-7 groceries: $120.76 not including pet food but including $5 worth of supplies for a lab and $50 of beer for the event
October 1-7 eating out: $99.78 includes work trip food, work lunches, various eating out as we went from thing to thing.

Week 1 total: $220.54 on people food

Just Morningstar nuggets and tater tots, so we can just roll in and make something super easy. I had a very silly flight to DC last week and ended up staying at the house and went to the grocery store.

After a summer of fun (yay!) and a construction project (yikes!), I really need to wrangle the budget again. I gotta say, I’m still struggling with YNAB but I’m going to try to utilize it again to help us make sense of everything.

first week was a struggle but i did expect it to be >.<’

what I didn’t expect was for the canteen where I buy my lunch at to be closed…so I ended up getting delivery for three days. then I felt grumpy about it so I ate out during the weekend. doing my groceries and starting my price log/journal made me feel a little better tho.

food (+meds) budget: 3,500php*
actual food (+meds) expense: 4,500php*

it doesn’t help that my money is moving around this week on account of shop update. hopefully after the 14th(initial inventory purchases), it won’t be floating around so much orz

*1$=54php

Oops, I’m late checking in. I already have the best possible badge though. I’m just her for the stickers

Food $106.66/725
Local Food $0/100
Transportation $0/75
Pet $0/200
Household $169.94/120 :warning:

Well, that didn’t last long :grimacing: I am trying out Prose and didn’t pay attention to when the automatic charge would happen for the second month. It especially surprised me because I am nowhere near low on any of the products!
