Oh, and then there’s this fucker, who apparently is such a horrible judget that the Cook County Dems took the unusual step of sending out literature saying “please don’t vote to retain this guy.” Except it looks like he’s going to hold onto his seat anyway.
I kind of attribute this to people not really paying attention to judges. I used to not pay attention to judges either, when I was a new voter.
The measure on the ballot that would’ve made the neighborhood just west of Wrigleyville essentially dry, did fail. This was so odd. Even the Progressive Voting Guide for Chicago was like “I literally have no idea why anyone should vote for this, it’s not like it’s going to curtail drunkenness near the ballpark and it’s not like people can’t walk or drive a few blocks to go get booze.” Turns out it was aimed at closing down ONE bar because there was an isolated incident of violence there and the NIMBYs who live in the now very gentrified area want it shut down. Also because it’s one of the last bars in the city with a 4 a.m. license.
Yay, Michigan! At this point, I’ve seen Biden leading by 1.9% and 2.2%. Whew! I know trump will demand a recount, but at least the span is wider than it was earlier.
It was mostly judicial retention, this time - voting whether judges already on the bench should lose their seat or not. They’re not running against anyone, except their own record, I guess.
ETA: You can see how FUCKING EMPTY Nevada is. And lo, it’s going to decide this election. Fucking crazy, living in a federalist thingum, mates. But kind of glorious.
North Dakota is next to the Wisconsin and minnesota states! And I knew where michigan was but assumed it had other little states before Wisconsin. Maybe because of all the lil ones near Quebec?
When I learned the provinces I didn’t actually learn all 10… Just Quebec to bc. And then guessed at the others! And now there’s 3 territories instead of 2.
I’m not at all visual, so my options for this kind of info is to learn the entire series and or make it mechanical somehow
It does suck somewhat either way, but most drivers were in favor of remaining ICs. We can still multi-app, make our own schedules, and work wherever we want to.
Speaking for myself, I live in a far out exurb (80 miles outside of LA) that Uber would probably stop operating in. A lot of my clients are Medi-Cal patients and methadone clinic patients. Driving so many miles means I write off almost my whole income and qualify for Medi-Cal, which has really saved me because I’ve used so much health care. And since I’ve been doing it so long, I’ve designed my whole financial life around it in the most optimal way possible. Having it potentially yanked away has been terrifying.
I have to say that aside from not having benefits, it’s been the perfect situation for someone who first had to deal with workIng around kid schedules, and then my erratic health coming back from my tumor and stroke. Some days I could work several hours, and others I would crap out after 20 minutes with no warning, and I didn’t have anyone to answer to but myself. It’s been great for traveling, too.
I get the other side too, though. Maybe it would eventually have made things better. But the transition was going to be painful.
I am quite proud of my blue dot in the midst of north florida red. I must say, the election makes it really easy to show people where in Florida I live. It’s the single blue one surrounded by all the red in the main part of the state.
