Ok, so I made the change in time for the higher Roth 457 contribution in January, yay! So contributions through the end of February:

  • Roth 457: $900.00
  • HSA: $1820.00
  • Pension: 915.00
    Total: 3635.00

Haven’t done taxes yet; it’ll jump then assuming everything looks right to max 2025 Roth IRAs then (all signs point to yes). Planning to get it done this week while I’m on spring break.

March Check In!

Been dealing with lots of unexpected expenses for myself and my cat this month, some of which has been absorbed by emergency sinking funds, some not. Nevertheless I did an okay job of saving this month: $2,640 total.

$1000 of that will go towards student loans, and $500 to my Roth IRA (which I actually got around to start setting up today-- I still need to transfer funds but at least it’s in-progress now). The remaining $1,140 will go towards my car/house down payment bucket.

I’m now at $12,660 saved this year, 62% of the way to my goal of $20,260 saved! I’m feeling confident that I will reach my stretch goal of $26,000 saved. If I keep up this pace, this year I will hopefully pay off all my student loans and make decent progress towards a down payment on a house. Very exciting!

Just over $5k to end of March. Last year i kept most of the savings as our cash emergency funds, and those are full so i am buying shares as i go this year.

Through March I had income of $19,954 and saved $13,900. I won’t have any problem hitting my $26,000 goal which is good to know so early in the year. My sales have started off really well so I’m anticipating very nice commission checks later in the year.

Belated end of March check in! The Boy got a sort of 401(k) bonus that was a nice jump start.

We’re now at $9828 for the year so far.

I typically like trying to double this ($40,520), since Wizard and I are both working FT at good jobs.

I frontloaded some investing this year (i.e. contributed to my 2025 IRA), so we’re currently at $28098.69/$40520 (69.3% done). I’m planning for a slowdown/regression in the next couple months, though, as we’re looking at some work on the house & garden that will need us to draw on savings and then refill those buckets.

Up to just over $9k! Less than I’d hoped to be but the extra went to solidly life improving items (fresh socks and kids activities), and grocery inflation .

April Check In:

This month I’ve saved $2,927. $1000 is going towards student loans, and $500 to Roth IRA. The remainder will go towards the car/house down payment bucket.

Currently at $15,587 saved so far, 76% of the way to my goal. Definitely on track to hitting this goal and reaching my stretch goal as well.

For some reason, none of my husband’s 401(k) contributions hit in April but we still saved $1828 from our paychecks. We’re at $11,656 for the year, so chugging along nicely on track to hit the goal.

Congratulations! That’s awesome!

I’m at $11,800 for the year saved in our budget money. I’m also well over halfway for my gross income savings goal. The savings have been nice and predictable so far this year.

May update:

We did the thing! Likely did the thing in April when I did taxes and funded our 2025 Roth IRA’s, but I didn’t check then. Will continue with steady boring pension, HSA, and 457 contributions starting in August when my paychecks start back.

Type Amount
Pension $2,365.26
HSA $5,200.00
Roth 457 $2,250.00
Roth IRA 1 $8,000.00
Roth IRA 2 $8,000.00
Total $25,815.26

May Check In:

So this month I’ve finished my master’s degree (!!!) which, besides being exciting in and of itself, meant I had a lot of celebratory meals paid for and some cash gifts from family-- so I saved much more than usual! I saved $4,526.79. $1000 is going towards student loans, $500 to my Roth IRA, and the remainder going to my car/house down payment bucket.

Currently at $20,113 – so close to 100% of the $20,260 goal and well on track to hit $26,000 instead!
