25 in 2025: Save $20,250

We’ve been throwing extra $$ in the HSA because we (my husband) had forgotten to up it. Saved $2573 in October, now at $19,123 for the year. Cautiously optimistic that we will make the goal!

December update!
FHSA: 8000$ (maxed for the year )
TFSA: 8600$ (for Canadians worrying that I went over my contribution room, don’t worry. My TFSA is far, VERY far from being maxed lol)
Pension:3935.35$
Total : 20553, 35$
These are not my final numbers, since I have not received any paycheck for december yet. I will have 2 more pension contribution, will update when I’ll have my last pay of the year.
I made it! :grinning: @anomalily

Y’ALL I made it!!! @anomalily
House principal paid: $10,131.14
401K contributions: $11,181.78
HSA contributions: $83.32 (lol. I’ve mostly been reimbursing myself throughout the year, but am now investing it instead!)
Tax refund: not counting that cuz I immediately spent it on house repairs
Additional individual savings: negligible, whoops
Debt repayment: $1000 towards a shed that I did 12 month, 0% APR financing on

Total: $22,396.10

Oh! I just realized we crossed the finish line! I thought I had to wait for my husband’s December paycheck to hit but then I remembered mortgage principal exists. So just my paycheck savings plus that puts us at $20,834.

I’m expecting about another $1400. In reaching this total I subtracted money that I withdrew from the HSA to cover our expenses, but I did NOT subtract money that I withdrew to pay for our solar panels as I consider that more of a reinvestment.

Regular goal achieved: estimated number for EoY (which still includes one more paycheck and two more bills to pay) is ~$22,500

Stretch goal not achieved. The other work match is figured out, but will be distributed over academic year 2025-26 and not calendar year 2025, so a negligible effect on this year’s number since it will only be effective for the upcoming last paycheck. And the house didn’t sell in November as planned, so continuing to pay the mortgage blocked the stretch goal.

The house will hopefully close early next week, and from that some money will flow in, some will flow out, some will flow to savings and retirement. I will not count any of these amounts, but I look forward to starting the 2026 challenge in January with a clean slate and a new goal.

I am at $18,800 and just waiting on DH’s final paycheque of the year to hit the bank account, at which point we will have made it. That will be Wednesday. Soooo close.

I don’t think I even posted in here because I was sure that I wouldn’t make it, but I guess there is an upside to these student loan payments

Mortgage principal - $6224
403b + fully vested match - $4029
Student loan - $3480
IRA - $1525
Cash emergency fund savings - $7783
Total as of today $23041
Income - $97000
23.75% of income saved

I did it! Even beat the stretch goal. I am also 10K away from my first 100K saved by myself (not a work pension), which feels wild compared to where I was 5 years ago!

I made it! This month had an extra mortgage payment and extra DH paycheque, so final result:
$21,400!

Definitely didnt think we were going to make it at the start of the year. It feels good to be finishing 2025 with our emergency funds filled and a bit of extra cash put aside.

Done!

I just got my commission check so I am at $26,873 saved for the year from income of $49,931, for a 53.9% savings rate. I maxed out both my Simple IRA and my ROTH. Yay!

Cash savings: $14,000
Retirement savings (403b (2)/457/pension): $58,038
College savings (529): $5,000

Total savings: $77,038 or 127% of stretch goal

We made our stretch goal. I did a lot of bank account and credit card churning plus some Swagbucks games since the last update to increase our cash balance. I think we will be eligible for full deductions for traditional IRAs this year so some of our cash will be used for that, but I wanted to include the amount in 2025 since that was when it was saved.

We have a higher goal for next year since I’ll hopefully be working all year (started in May in 2025). Most of our net worth is tied up in the house and we really don’t want to work anymore so we’re trying to hit the retirement accounts hard.

@anomalily, did we ever get stickers?

I’ve been mailing them out as folks have filled in the form! I don’t see that you’ve filled in the form. Please do!
