Creeping along! We’re up to $12,643 for the year, so that was an increase of almost $3500 this month - mostly due to being an extra paycheck month. Hooray!
spring update for the summer solstice, I guess
Mar + Apr + May:
Retirement savings: $11196 (I opened an IRA and made my 2022 contributions before I filed my taxes)
Savings account: $7452 (we got a really big tax refund this year because we got married near the end of the year)
Total YTD: $25329
wow! well over the goal much earlier than I anticipated. stretch goal $40,000 I guess?
July update: I did get a “paycheck” because of my research student’s ongoing project. Gross pay was $135.00 for the month. $50 of that to the Roth 457, $8.10 to pension. Happily, we prepay summer benefits in spring, because the $66.57 left over would not cover that shit.
Our joint grand total is up to $29,231.31.
Got my commission check today and put 9k in savings so I am moving over here from the 23% group.
YTD earned $36,254
YTD saved $18,960
52.3%
Oooo that’s huge, congrats!
So as of 30/6/2023 - I was at $66746, so on track
We have gone backwards by a few thousand. So. Yeah. Maybe I’ll finally start making money?
I was busy so I didn’t update for a while. July and August update:
I got a bonus which netted about $4k and I saved the whole thing which put us over the top at $20,539. Hooray!
However, I also have to pay a big daycare bill in October out of that account ($10k) which will eat a good chunk of that. However However, I also will get $5,000 returned to me of that from my dependent care FSA eventually. So. I think that nets out to mean that we still have $5k to go in order to hit the goal. Onward!
Hit my goal in July!
Perfect timing, because Wizard and I are now combining finances this August and I don’t really know what that’s gonna look like!
I realized I haven’t updated since January! Here are my savings as of last paycheck for the year. I am on track for 20,230!
Through August:
YTD Earned $39,344
YTD Saved $19,710
50.1%
So close!
September update: we hit the goal! $25,013 as of the first of the month. I don’t know what the stretch goal is but I’m just going to keep updating and see where we end up at year end.
I fell off posting here! My partner lost their job in April. We also did some moving cash around and switched to tracking via YNAB! But now I haven’t recalculated our “savings” number. Our burn rate is $1-2k/month while Partner is unemployed, but also we’re putting about 1k/mo into mortgage principal + student loan principal.
It’s…possible that we’ll catch up? If they get a new job soon? But I would happily settle for breaking even for 2023.
Ahh I need to grant the badge! i need to make the badge
September update is that I’m not good at updating. But.
- Me end of July: Another $135 gross check, $50 to Roth457, $8.10 to pension
- Him end of July: Grant pay - $500.00 to Roth457, no pension contribution, which I’ve just discovered and which is illegal…
- Me end of August (regular pay): $395.75 pension, $347.50 HSA, $50 Roth457
- Him end of August (regular pay): $342.00 pension, $347.50 HSA, $500.00 Roth457
Which brings our YTD to $31,772.16.
Looks like the driveway paving will happen next week(!!!), which is going to be about $22,000. And we’re seriously car shopping now due to the miles on our older vehicles (plus something used and fuel efficient will pay for itself now that we won’t tear it up on our steep dirt road). But I think we have the cash for both of those, and we’ve officially made it through the no-paychecks summer. I’ll look at the books to be sure, but I think it’s time to up contributions again. We just might make our stretch goal of $20,230 per person.
Yup I continue to stink at updates!
I hit the threshold of $25,400 at the end of July, today currently sitting at $29,650ish. I hope to hit $35k for the end of the year. I’m trying to add in a bit extra periodically on top of my regular autopilot savings. I have been paying back the E fund for the safari trip, 3 more payments to go and we are back to extra retirement savings again!
October: I won an award at work this month and the (totally unexpected) prize was $1k! We’re up to $27,152. I think maybe we can be at $30k for year end.
I did it! Barely!
I am hoping for a commission check at the end of the year, but if I get one it will not be very big. Sales are definitely down from last year.
Income $44,288
Saved $20,310
45.9%
I DID IT!
Now I just need to make the badge and sticker for everyone!!
